GREEN BOAR ® was set up in the Chinese Year of The Boar,
under auspicious stars.
Henry Virgin discovered the real meaning of tea while he was a teacher in South China *. Tea was a cultural revelation amongst the frenetic, polluted factory lands of Guangdong Province. On his return to London, he found it impossible to find this speciality tea and hard to find the kit to drink it in Gong Fu style.
Worried by the pollution which he had encountered, pollution generated by international companies, he discovered that enlightened Chinese tea farmers had returned to the ancient methods of organic tea husbandry. Furthermore, certain tea farms had sought out relations with Fairtrade.
Inspired by this Organic and Fairtrade combination, and having returned to honeymoon in Sichuan, he and his wife Nicky decided that the UK should once again enjoy the world's greatest organic tea.
GREEN BOAR ® imports Organic, and Fairtrade Loose Leaf Tea from China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, India, Vietnam and Thailand.
We aim to discover and import the best organically grown and fairly traded teas available. Some of our teas are traded solely with the producer and are unavailable through any other supplier in the West.
Our teas are certified organic, by the UK Soil Association and wherever it has been possible to be verified, they are Fairtrade.
Maintaining good relations with all our suppliers is intrinsic to the ethic of Green Boar ®. With an office in Guangdong, South China, primarily our teas were sourced from Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian and Yunnan. Now we also trade with Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, India and Taiwan.
We are committed to the principles and practice of organic tea husbandry. This brings our teas as close as it is possible to the quality and purity of the tea as it was grown, produced and drunk by the ancients.
* An account of his final 3 months in China is soon to be published
